The saddest part is that there was absolutely no way for her to “do it the right way” as the anti-immigration/right always screams. What are you supposed to do when you are here on one kind of visa, you can’t go home because of a revolution and enter again asking for asylum? You get caught in bureaucratic neverland, in a forty+ year cycle of reappearing before an immigration judge every six months. There are so many people appearing every six months before an immigration judge. We have all read about them and how ICE has swept many people up in just such circumstances. In the late 1950’s/early 60’s, after the Cuban revolution, those refugees were allowed to come and stay, and become citizens. And the Vietnamese, some of them if they came at the right time. But no group as a group since. Now all of them - Somalis, Afghans, Haitians, etc. Are being rounded up, their 6 month check-ins used against them. All because since the early 1980’s our congressional representatives and senators have been unable to update immigration laws. They almost did under Boehner but he tells in his book how the Tea Party and unelected people (Norquist) scuttled it all. Then just a short year ago, Trump demanded they scuttle the hammered out bi-partisan agreement and threw a far right wing Senator, Lankford, under his bus. The system is broken because a small minority of people called a “base” are bigots.
We all want Donna’s immediate release from this unjustified detention. It is our honor to donate to her cause. We hope she knows, as well as all the others like her, that we doing what we can to stop these insane acts.
The key thing is to play the legal system just like the SOBs. She is entitled to an immigration court hearing at a minimum, from there she can appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals and then, if necessary, to a federal appeals court. But as with similar situations, her reps should sue in federal court simultaneously. And federal courts ultimately have the authority to review and potentially overturn decisions made by immigration courts.

Trevor, I had to do this for Donna and her family, for you as her friend. I didn’t even think twice about it. I just knew I needed to help. You are very much welcome. What in God’s name is this administration doing? Before this nightmare is over every one of us is going to personally know another Donna that this has happened to.
Reading all I could find about Donna, my mind filled with the injustices she experienced for so many years. Yet her spirit lived in her love, and her many good deeds. It would be an honor to know such a fine woman. It is an honor for me, now, to donate.
I saw the total was so close to $53K so I chipped in another $100. At my age, the most beneficial help I have is donating to the actions. This is action that must be supported.

Wende, that is an excellent summation of how it’s all happened.

It seems that injustice is not only everywhere, but their only policy.

Thank you, and soon we will all know a Donna or be a Donna.
